VARSITY CHEER
Song/Flag/Majorette
If there is one element at a football game that keeps the spirit of the Lancers high, it is the pep squads. Their enthusiasm and dedication are credited for the tremendous upsurge of school pride and loyalty throughout the season.
The Lancerettes provide that extra momentum to the players and the fans with their vivacious routines, imeasurable talent and incredible agility.
As they cheer the footballers onto victory, the players and fans are reminded that when it comes to pep spirit at LHS, no one has more than the Lancerettes with their upbeat rhythmic cheers and chants.
Since the 1930's, cheerleaders used pompons with their routines. Of course, this practice carried over to the Lancerettes as it did with many other pep squads around the country.
But it wasn't until the 1970's that cheerleading began to receive recognition as a serious and highly skilled athletic activity with the incorporation of gymnastics, group stunts, pyramid routines, jumps and tumbles.
The Lancerettes are no exception to the norm.
They are hard at work year round and can be found at Ford Stadium on a Friday night during a football game filled with smiles and spirit.
The ladies of the red and white clad must be highly skilled and competitive in order to achieve the cherished position of cheerleader.
They are here to lead the fans in support of the Lancers and generate support and pride within the LHS campus and the Lakewood community. The Lancerettes will always be an important leadership force for many years to come.
