Ford Girls
1969

We were a part of Ms. Branch's Advanced Dance class. There were about six or eight of us. We wore white tops and red mini skirts with white knee boots (like "Go Go" girls).

They played the song, "Ford has a better idea" (from the Ford company theme song). We would come out on stage in the auditorium and start dancing the disco stuff like "Go Go" girls. After the song, Coach Ford came out and gave info about the upcoming game and introduced some football players, like a pre-game pep rally, but we weren't pepsters, we were dancers. We did this almost every Friday before the game at the pep rally in the auditorium.

We also did some special stuff during the halftime of football games. I remember one time we were at Vet's Stadium in Long Beach (probably our homecoming) and the same group of dancers dressed as Harem girls danced the belly dance to the music of the Lakewood High School band.

My husband says there are pictures in the 1969 yearbook. The reason you will see tape on our belly buttons in the picture is because they turned out the stadium lights, and we had glow in the dark paint on the tape so the movement when we belly danced would emphasize our navels even more. I don't really remember too many other things we did for football, but the Advanced Dance class did lots of plays and other school things. Thanks for listening; it's been fun relating the story and remembering the good old days.
