CIF Commissioner of Athletics Ken Fagans today announced that "because of overwhelming fan interest" the "4-A" playoff semifinal games between Anaheim and Mater Dei and El Rancho and Lakewood have been assigned to Anaheim Stadium and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

All four semi-finalists in the "4-A" division are unbeaten in 11 games and between them the "Big 4" have scored an even 1500 points (3.6 average) all season.

Lakewood, the Dons semifinal foe at the Coliseum, has become the "Cinderella" team of the playoffs.

This is the first time in the school's 10 year history that it has been a playoff entrant.

The fifth rated Lancers have made their successes the hard way-stopping powerful Long Beach Wilson, 33-28 to win the Moore League title, downing Santa Ana 20-13 in the first round and stunning third rated Centennial 16-13 last Friday night.

While Mickey Cureton scored a record breaking touchdown on an 88 yard run, Lancer coach John Ford was pleased with the manner in which his charges contained magnificent Mickey. "Our line played it's best game," said Ford, "defensively Joe Meads, Barney Bumgarner, Tim Hoban and Wayne Silvey were outstanding."

"Silvey sometimes gets lost in the shuffle on offense," noted Ford, "but he sure came through Friday." The pile-driving fullback scored one touchdown and had key runs of 18 and 27 yards in setting up both of the Lancer scores.

El Rancho, usually a defensively oriented team, has come up with a spectacular offensive attack this year headed by quarterbacks Rick Pope, Fred Tippett, halfback Manny Chavez, fullback Guy Pico and end Dave Patterson.
