Press-TelegramSaturday, September 28, 1968 By David Schoenberg Lakewood High took a lesson from the "Run for Your Life" television series - and it did just that Friday night. The Lancers rolled up 339 yards on the ground and 502 yards total offense en route to a 28-2 victory over Chaffey. Tailback Al Lemmerman and fullback Rich Herman traded long touchdown runs and combined for 227 yards. Lemmerman, a 5-11, 195-pound senior, scored the only touchdown of the first half taking a pitchout from quarterback Mike Rae and raced 81 yards unmolested. Lakewood's ground attack unloaded in the third period with 168 yards, including an 80-yard scamper by Herman. Rae led Lakewood to another score late in the period on a six play, 25-yard drive after cornerback Jim Nash intercepted at the Chaffey 28 and returned three yards. Rae bucked over from one yard out. Tailback Larry O'Brien completed the Lancer scoring with a one-yard plunge up the middle on the first play of the fourth period. Chaffey avoided a shutout with a third period safety by defensive tackle Don Batrack, who threw O'Brien in the end zone after the Lancers were pushed back to the three on a clipping penalty.
